Dschungelpflanze aus dem Regenwald Westafrikas

Die Afrikanische Schwarzbohne (Griffonia simplicifolia) ist eine verholzende Schlingpflanze aus der Familie der Hülsenfrüchtler (Fabaceae), die im Regenwald Westafrikas wächst. Griffonia wird 3-4 m hoch und hat unauffällige grüne Blüten, später bilden sich schotenförmige Früchte. Zur Reife explodieren sie und schleudern dabei die schwarzen Samen in die Umgebung.

Antidepressive Bohnen

In Afrika, vor allem in Ghana, gilt Griffonia als aphrodisierendes Mittel. Bei uns wurde die Pflanze aus anderen Gründen populär: Aus den Samen isoliert man 3-7% 5-Hydroxy-L-tryptophan (5-HTP). Dieser Naturstoff ist die Vorstufe des natürlichen Neurotransmitters Serotonin (5-Hydroxytryptamin, 5-HT). Der Stoff gilt als natürliche Alternative zur Behandlung von Depressionen.

Gewinnung

Die getrockneten Samen von Griffonia werden gemahlen und mit Alkohol extrahiert. Reinigung erfolgt durch wiederholte Kristallisation (Umkristallisation). Das Pulver der Kristalle wird zu Tabletten verarbeitet.

Es gibt bisher keine generell vorgeschriebene Protokolle und Kontrollen.
